Nouvelobs : Delphine Chaneac tourne 2 films pour M6

Delphine Chaneac, est l’actrice en vu du moment. Non seulement, on la découvre à l’affiche au cinéma dans Splice, mais elle prépare aussi deux téléfilms pour M6 : la comédie “Demain, je me marie” et un deuxième opus de “L’amour vache”.

“Demain, je me marie”, actuellement en tournage, sera diffusé courant 2011 sur la chaîne privée. L’actrice française y donne la réplique à Catherine Jacob et Sagamore Stévenin.

En février, la chaîne diffusait “L’amour vache”, fiction façon “L’amour est dans le pré” dans laquelle Delphine Chanéac interprétait le rôle d’une Parisienne tombant amoureuse d’un agriculteur, interprété par Thierry Neuvic. Le téléfilm avait réuni 4,7 millions de téléspectateurs. Forte de ce succès, M6 prépare un deuxième épisode.

La problématique mode de Delphine Chanéac :

« Je suis une acheteuse plutôt raisonnable. J’aime que les objets soient des challenges. Les chercher, les trouver, les ramener à la maison : il faut que ce soit un mini parcours du combattant. Tout sauf capricieuse,je me contente de ce que j’ai. Il faut dire que je ne suis pas à plaindre, j’ai acheté mon appartement à 26 ans. J’aime les jolies choses mais je refuse d’être perpétuellement en quête du dernier truc à la mode. J’essaie toujours de me demander si j’en ai vraiment besoin avant d’acheter quelque chose. »

Et, j’ai la chance d’ avoir une morphologie androgyne, complètement adaptée à la coupe des vêtements Lagerfeld. Je ne quitte pas mes manchettes perlées et mes jeans. « Une veste ou une robe Balmain, avec les fameuses épaulettes. Pour le moment, je n’ ai pas les moyens, mais ce n’est pas grave du tout. Un jour, peut-être… Et puis ça fait du bien de fantasmer, c’est important. Presque plus important que de posséder vraiment les choses, je trouve. »

« Je vis en musique : en ce moment, j’écoute en boucle Richard Cheese. Et à chaque voyage, je rapporte un instrument.D’ailleurs, pendant le tournage de Splice, Adrien Brody – un mec adorable – m’a offert un accordéon. »

Pourquoi Delphine Chanéac va cartonner ?

Elle est à l’affiche de : Splice, avec Adrien Brody et Sarah Polley (sortie le 30 juin). Un film réalisé par Vincenzo Natali, tourné au Canada, et pour lequel elle a dû se raser la tête. Une expérience étonnante qui la faitse sentir encore plus femme. On la retrouve également dans Verso, un long métrage suisse de Xavier Ruiz, avec Laurent Lucas et Barthélémy Grossmann.

Telefilm and OMDC congratulate Splice for hitting over $ 1.1 M at the Canadian box office after one week in theatres

MONTREAL and TORONTO, June 11 /CNW Telbec/ – Telefilm Canada and the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) would like to congratulate Splice, a Canada-France coproduction which received support from both organizations, for exceeding the million dollar mark after just one week in Canadian theatres. Opening last Friday, June 4, Splice has already generated box office sales of $1.12 million across 170 screens in Canada. Having opened across over 2600 screens in North America, Splice is the second largest release of a Canadian film in history and the largest ever for a Telefilm or OMDC-financed project.

Secretly and without permission (of course), they bring human genes into the game, and the result is Dren: The answer to all their problems! …right?

What Sets Splice Apart from Nightmare on Elm St., Black Waters of Echos Pond and other Recent Horror Films?

Who would have thought, that there’s anyone in Hollywood who actually cares to have a decent story in a horror movie? But Natali certainly does, having given us Cube several years ago, and even if he loses sight of this around the ending, Splice is still definitely a huge improvement over most horror films these days. It dares to go places other studios and directors don’t have the guts to go, and it doesn’t treat its audiences like pre-adolescent teens.

Before we even get the first scene, we’re given a good sign of what’s to come: Opening credits. That may seem like a weird thing to say, but think about it: When was the last time you saw a movie that actually had opening credits? These days, 95% of movies simply say the studio, the movie title, and then the movie starts. It leaps into things very quickly, almost like it’s anxious. And sometimes, because the audience is equally anxious (The Dark Knight), that’s fine. But in this case, the movie is basically taking its time. Its telling you it wants to take its time to build up to what you’re about to experience. Slow and steady wins the race, they say. It also speaks to Natali not wanting to conform and do what everyone else is doing.

Brody and Polley do very well, especially when they are together. Their work relationship and personal relationship never seems to blur, and it’s all very believable. The other characters are just ok, nothing worth mentioning; The one everyone will remember after this movie is the creature Dren, brought to life on screen (literally) through CGI, puppetry and prosthetics, and Delphine Chaneac. For quite some time, the creature is treated much like a child, which is something audiences can connect with immediately. Dren’s first words, first steps, feeding it, all of these interactions and more make you realize that the movie is just as much about the immorality of human genome testing, as it is about proper parenting and the damage that improper parenting can leave on a child. Dren is really the star of the show, because she’s the one audiences connect with.

It’s also because once Dren enters the picture, we like our two lead scientists less and less. Scene after scene, at least one of them does something to get the audience to hate them just a little more. Splice shares a lot with Frankenstein and the other classic horror monsters that followed, but the key difference is that: in Splice, it’s not a tragedy because we don’t care about our main characters. It almost feels like so much effort and work was put into Dren, that they used all the creative juice they had on her but had nothing left for any of the human characters. By the third act, so much distance has been put between the humans and the audience, that no one cares what happens to them anymore. It ceases to be a tragic tale of misunderstanding and a poor creature caught in the middle of it all, it’s just a science toy gone wrong again. It has nothing to do with the actors themselves; it’s the characters and what they do that is lacking.

So Why Should Any One Bother?

Because horror movies now make you jump for a split second, and then you forget that adrenaline rush. You move in with your life. You go to school, you work out, feed your fish, and fall asleep in front of the TV. Splice is disturbing and unsettling, not BOO!-scary. It makes you squirm because you’re genuinely and morally uncomfortable, not because there’s fake blood and guts as far as the eye can see. It reaches down your throat, into your eyes and will burn images and moments into your mind, that will stick with you for days. And they’ll randomly spring back to memory at the most random times, but when it does, for some reason you won’t be able to get it out of your head. Because chances are, you haven’t seen anything like what this movie does: it takes chances, risks, and goes places Freddy and Jason movies don’t dare touch.

All these symptoms are very similar of what foreign horror films like Audition and Ichi the Killer pass on to their own respective audiences. And rightfully so, Splice feels like a foreign horror film in the guise of the US splatterflick. Because of that, recommending this film can be difficult, as many US audiences will be turned off from things they don’t understand or don’t « get ». However, this is a rare specimen. If people walk out saying how awful Splice was, it’s because something in the movie got to them. In ways that they’re not used to, because this movie wasn’t spoonfed to them. Something in this movie made them squirm and cry inside. That, is a rare achievement. And each time someone leaves disgusted, Dren is laughing that clicking laugh of hers.

Splice is a 4 out of 5.

After watching Delphine Chanéac play a half-animal, half-human heroine in the new science-fiction thriller “Splice,” it’s a relief to meet the French actress in the flesh, sans tail and creepy webbed feet. But her body, buff for the role, is still reverting to its natural lithe shape. “I got so strong I couldn’t get into my favorite Karl Lagerfeld dress,” Chanéac says, nursing a coffee and cigarette at the Hotel Amour in Paris.

For the role, the 31-year-old had to transform into a new life form created by two young genetic researchers (played by Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley) when one of their lab experiments goes wrong. Hence the prosthetic tail and webbed feet and the need to shave her head every morning. To fight off the chill during the shoot in Canada, Chanéac bought a collection of hats. They ended up serving a dual purpose, she says, and made her “look a bit more feminine.”

Fortunately, she’ll be a bit more recognizable in her next film, a German project titled “The Big Black” in which she plays Eve, a woman whose father is mayor of a town where the population is decimated by a virus. And this summer she starts filming a Vincent Giovanni comedy in which she plays a veterinarian.

Somewhere in between all this, the hyperproductive actress has managed to publish two novels and start work on her first music album. Variety is just the way she prefers things. Or as she puts it, “I like life to surprise me.” — Chantal Goupil

Dren, or Nerd spelled backwards, is the star of this summer’s Sci-Fi flick Splice. Played by Delphine Chanéac, Dren is the sexy result of two young scientists’ dangerous experiment; a new organism created by splicing together human and animal DNA. Sounds kind a gross, but she is kinda hot… Just don’t look at her baby pictures!

Dren can breathe under water, is equipped with a deadly stinger and wings, but even non-furries will find her hard to resist. The only downside to Dren — she grows up quick, and you might not like what happens when she becomes an adult. You will have to watch the movie to to see what I mean.

Splice is directed by Vincenzo Natali (Cube) and stars Adrien Brody (Predators) and Sarah Polley (Dawn of the Dead remake).

How does a model end up looking like Gollum?

First you shave her head, then give her a tail, retractable wings, a forked tongue, kangaroo legs and ET eyes.

You’re losing me. What is the film about?

Synthetic life. Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley play hotshot genetic engineers who splice together animal genes in a lab to make hybrid creatures. In their spare time they knock out a human/beast, which they call Dren (it’s nerd backwards).

Topical. So Chanéac is Dren?

Right. And she gives an impressive performance, childlike one moment, predatory the next. As a karate expert, she did most of her own stunts as well as the clicks and purrs of Dren’s speech. The director, Vincenzo Natali, says they only used CGI for what was anatomically impossible.

Let me guess, it goes all Frankensteinish?

Yep. Polley and Brody’s characters are a couple, so there are lots of parenthood metaphors, too. He wants kids, she’s ambivalent, they make Dren …

Isn’t that when most people get a cat?

Genetic engineers have more options, it would seem. To be fair, the emotional stuff plays second fiddle to the freaky science, which gets very freaky indeed.

Adrien Brody a tourné une scène étrange dans son nouveau film.

Adrien Brody a choqué les producteurs hollywoodiens en tournant une scène de sexe avec la créature que son personnage a créé dans son nouveau film, Splice.

Les producteurs ont eu du mal à voir Adrien Brody dans la scène d’intimité qu’il joue avec un personnage mi-femme, mi-créature, interprété par Delphine Chaneac, dans son nouveau film d’horreur, Splice, a révélé le site Starpulse.com.
Le réalisateur, Vincenzo Natali, a déclaré : “La scène était la raison pour laquelle je voulais faire le film, et c’est pour ça que c’est un miracle que le film existe. Aucun studio ne voulait faire ça, à cause de la partie sexuelle de l’histoire. Alors, nous avons dû aller en France. Et les Français bien sûr, n’ont aucun problème avec ça”.

Il a ajouté qu’il a choisi l’actrice française Delphine Chaneac, pour représenter la demi-créature, parce qu’elle est séduisante : “J’ai senti qu’elle avait une qualité androgyne. Je ne voulais pas que Dren soit ouvertement sexuelle. Je voulais que les gens tombent amoureux d’elle, et non qu’ils la désirent. Alors, j’ai trouvé qu’une beauté androgyne est peut-être un peu plus évoluée. Comme David Bowie, il est peut-être plus évolué que nous. Je pense vraiment que Dren est un objet de désir, mais pas dans le sens le plus évident”.
En France, Splice sortira le 30 juin, l’occasion de se faire son propre avis sur cette fameuse scène…

Lors du casting pour le film Splice, Delphine Chanéac s’est sentie honteusement… »ridicule »!

La frenchy – qui interprète Dren, le bébé alien d’Adrien Brody et Sarah Polley dans la production canadienne – a raconté au média M&C : « C’est drôle car lorsque je suis venue passer l’audition, ils m’ont dit de retirer mon T-Shirt. En voyant la musculature de mon dos, ils m’ont demandé si ça ne me dérangeait pas de jouer un garçon. Ils se sont marrés et moqués de moi. Ensuite, l’agent du casting a ajouté qu’il y avait aussi un rôle pour une fille, alors je me suis dit ‘pourquoi pas ?’ »

Devant le réalisateur Vincenzo Natali (Cube), Delphine a appris qu’elle devrait se mettre dans la peau une créature mi-humaine, mi-animale. « Ils m’ont demandée de bouger comme un alien alors j’ai fait un peu de karaté. Je me suis sentie ridicule. Honte à moi, mais bon c’était ok et je l’ai fait [...] Puis, j’ai ouvert la porte et vu 20 nanas qui attendaient pour la même chose, je ne m’y attendais pas ! »

Un mois plus tard, la jolie brune a reçu la confirmation de sa participation au long-métrage, d’un budget de 31 millions de dollars s’il vous plaît !

Delphine Chaneac’s Sexy, Awkward Alien Act Pays Off

French actress Delphine Chaneac recently opened up about playing an alien in her new role as Dren in the Canadian film ‘Splice’. In a recent interview, Delphine Chaneac described what her process was for getting into such a sensual yet awkward role. She describes the process as elegant and embarrassing at the same time. Here’s what she said in an interview with M&C:

« They told me I had to play half human, half animal. They asked me to move like an alien so I did a little karate. I felt ridiculous. Shame on me, but it was okay and I did it. Karate is elegant and powerful, so I did it and I was carefree. Then I opened the door and saw 20 girls waiting to audition. I didn’t expect that! I didn’t know they were there so I felt I was free of pressure. And it worked and they called me one month later to cast in Toronto with Vincent and the crew. I had a week of very hard tasks to do but then I knew what kind of a movie it was.”

While the awkward role may be new to her, the elegance is clearly not foreign to Delphine Chaneac. Peep the pics below:

Il y avait de la star internationale hier soir à Cannes : Meg Ryan, les Naomi Watts et Campbell ou Adriana Karembeu, et pourtant… on n’a eu d’yeux que pour une actrice bien de chez nous, Delphine Chanéac. Délicieuse dans sa robe légère comme un souffle et ses sandales bijoux, la jolie brune découverte sur M 6 a offert aux photographes un instant très Marilyn.

Pure Trend : Cannes – Delphine Chaneac, une poupée rock sur tapis rouge

Sur le red carpet de la première du film Biutiful, la française Delphine Chanéac a fait sensation. L’attitude de la comédienne était en effet diablement glamour. Offrant une avalanche de poses hollywoodiennes et de sourires ravageurs, elle a fait le bonheur des photographes sur le red carpet. Et côté mode, la belle jouait la carte du romantisme vêtue d’une robe rose accessoirisée de fleurs en soie.

Associée à son carré brun, Delphine Chanéac était tout simplement adorable.

Enfin à ses pieds, ce sont des escarpins Sonia Rykiel ornés de strass et d’oeillets qui ponctuaient cette tenue sur une note beaucoup moins romanesque mais pleine de fantaisie.

Fraîche sur le tapis rouge dans sa robe lilas, Delphine Chanéac, héroïne de Splice le prochain film de Vincenzo Natali avec Adrian Brody, a monté les marches le 17 mai à Cannes en arborant un bracelet Maillon pavé de diamants et une bague 70’s en or blanc et diamants, les deux signés Dinh Van.
